Think on These Things: Positive thoughts in a negative world\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s hard for us to think that what we are going through at any given moment is temporary, but it is. Paul realized this. He endured much hardship in his walk with Christ, yet told us that afflictions last for a moment, but what we learn from them far surpasses them because \u201c\u2026 we do not look at the things that are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal\u201d (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not only did Paul have the vision to look beyond his dire circumstances to what they produced in his life\u2014a closer relationship with God\u2014but I think he knew the principle of \u201cthis, too, shall pass.\u201d Anything that\u2019s temporary will pass.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The phrase \u201cthis, too, shall pass\u201d is not in the Bible. There are many \u201cand it came to pass\u201d and \u201cit will come to pass\u201d phrases, but not \u201cthis, too, shall pass.\u201d However, I think there is a biblical principle of hope there.      <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are things we go through in life that are difficult or hard, but they will eventually be over. They will pass\u2014and there will be much rejoicing when they do. Even physical life itself is temporary and when it passes, the Christian knows there is a better life ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So as we patiently wait for whatever it is we are enduring to pass, we need to focus on something greater than our circumstances. God! Grumbling and complaining will not help a situation (Philippians 2:14). Worry or fret will not help a situation (Matthew 6:25-27). Only God\u2019s peace of mind and strength can carry us through (Isaiah 26:3, Psalm 37:39). That won\u2019t happen unless we fill our hearts with the mind of God which is found in His Word. God\u2019s words are not temporary\u2014they will never pass away (Matthew 24:35). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
