So in honor of Memorial Day, here\u2019s a poem. Let it be a tribute to all the soldiers who know that the cost of freedom is not free.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Veterans4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail wp-image-515\" title=\"Veterans\" src=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Veterans4-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Just a Common Soldier<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>by A. Lawrence Vaincourt<\/em><br \/>\nHe was getting old and paunchy and his hair was falling fast,<br \/>\nAnd he sat around the Legion, telling stories of the past<br \/>\nOf a war that he had fought in and the deeds that he had done,<br \/>\nIn his exploits with his buddies; they were heroes, every one<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And tho&#8217; sometimes, to his neighbors, his tales became a joke,<br \/>\nAll his Legion buddies listened, for they knew whereof he spoke<br \/>\nBut we&#8217;ll hear his tales no longer for old Bill has passed away,<br \/>\nAnd the world&#8217;s a little poorer, for a soldier died today<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He will not be mourned by many, just his children and his wife,<br \/>\nFor he lived an ordinary and quite uneventful life<br \/>\nHeld a job and raised a family, quietly going his own way,<br \/>\nAnd the world won&#8217;t note his passing, though a soldier died today<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When politicians leave this earth, their bodies lie in state,<br \/>\nWhile thousands note their passing and proclaim that they were great.<br \/>\nPapers tell their whole life stories, from the time that they were young,<br \/>\nBut the passing of a soldier goes unnoticed and unsung<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Is the greatest contribution to the welfare of our land<br \/>\nA guy who breaks his promises and cons his fellow man?<br \/>\nOr the ordinary fellow who, in times of war and strife,<br \/>\nGoes off to serve his Country and offers up his life?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If we cannot do him honor while he&#8217;s here to hear the praise,<br \/>\nThen at least let&#8217;s give him homage at the ending of his days<br \/>\nPerhaps just a simple headline in a paper that would say,<br \/>\nOur Country is in mourning, for a soldier died today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday is Memorial Day which honors our American soldiers who lost their lives in service to their country.
