Another Year of Choices<\/em><\/p>\n

\"PrayThe Bible says to pray for those in authority over us. (2 Timothy 2:1-2) In fact, Paul exhorted believers to do so. Why? Paul gives the reason, \u201c\u2026so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve thought about this scripture a lot this election year. I can\u2019t ever remember having two candidates who were more disliked and distrusted than the two we have running:\u00a0 Hillary Clinton for the Democrats and Donald Trump for the Republicans. Most people have just determined to vote for the lesser of two evils \u2013 whichever one that may be.<\/p>\n

Politics has never really had a good reputation.\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure when politics became such a dirty business, but some of the quotes I found were pretty old.\u00a0 So here are a few nonpartisan quips to lighten the mood for a heavy election.\u00a0 We even have some choice jabs from the greatest philosopher of all \u2013 Anon.\u00a0 I wonder if he\u2019s Democrat or Republican?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cWe hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office.\u201d\u00a0 Aesop<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve always said that in politics, your enemies can’t hurt you, but your friends will kill you.\u201d Ann Richards<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"Avoid<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Democrats seem to be basically nicer people, but they have demonstrated time and again that they have the management skills of celery. They’re the kind of people who’d stop to help you change a flat, but would somehow manage to set your car on fire. I would be reluctant to entrust them with a Cuisinart, let alone the economy. The Republicans, on the other hand, would know how to fix your tire, but they wouldn’t bother to stop because they’d want to be on time for Ugly Pants Night at the country club.\u201d\u00a0 Dave Barry<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest problem with political jokes is that they get elected!\u201d Anon<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cIn our age there is no such thing as \u2018keeping out of politics.\u2019 All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.\u201d\u00a0George Orwell<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cPolitics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies.\u201d\u00a0 Groucho Marx<\/em><\/p>\n

What about God?\u00a0 Is He a Democrat or Republican?\u00a0 According to this quote He\u2019s nonpartisan.\u00a0 \u201cAlthough He’s regularly asked to do so, God does not take sides in American politics.\u201d\u00a0 George J. Mitchell\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
