{"id":3326,"date":"2016-02-21T09:00:06","date_gmt":"2016-02-21T15:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/?p=3326"},"modified":"2016-02-17T20:12:42","modified_gmt":"2016-02-18T02:12:42","slug":"choose-to-participate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/?p=3326","title":{"rendered":"Choose to Participate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Another Year of Choices<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>By Barbara Dahlgren<\/em><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Participate.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3327\" src=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Participate-300x81.jpg\" alt=\"Participate\" width=\"300\" height=\"81\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Participate-300x81.jpg 300w, https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Participate.jpg 399w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>When we accept Jesus as our Savior, we know that salvation is a given.\u00a0 It\u2019s a done deal.\u00a0 However, we are expected to do more than just bask in the glory of knowing we are saved.\u00a0 Our relationship with God is not all up to Him.\u00a0 We must have a desire to know Him, walk with Him, and seek His presence.\u00a0 We need to participate in what the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have going on, not just observe.\u00a0 We should be participants, not spectators.\u00a0 So we need to do our part.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Relationship with God involves participation in what He is doing.\u00a0 Yes, God can do it all, but where does that leave us? God does not generally do for us what we can do for ourselves.\u00a0 There is a difference in asking God to bless our work than asking Him to do it for us. \u00a0All through the Bible God required some sort of participation.\u00a0 When Jesus performed miracles He could have just waved his arms, said abracadabra, and had everything done automatically.\u00a0 He usually didn\u2019t do that because He wanted people to be a part of what he was doing.\u00a0 Here are a few examples.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When He turned water into wine, He had men bring barrels of water. (John 2:7-8)<\/li>\n<li>When He raised Lazarus from the dead, He asked the people to roll away the stone. (John 11:39-44)<\/li>\n<li>When He was going to feed the 5000, He had a little boy share his lunch. (John 6:9-13)<\/li>\n<li>When the disciples weren\u2019t catching fish, He had them cast the net on the other side. (John 21:6)<\/li>\n<li>When He was going to heal the man with a withered hand, He told the man to stretch out his hand. (Matthew 12:13)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even though God parted the Red Sea, the Israelites still had to walk through it. \u00a0If they had not walked through it, they would not have gotten to the other side.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes our part is just to \u201carise\u201d \u2013 get up and get going.\u00a0 On the surface it may seem simple, but sometimes it can be hard to just get out of bed and face another day.\u00a0 Elijah was discouraged because Jezebel was after him, so he laid down under a juniper tree and asked God to let him die.\u00a0 But God sent an angel who said, \u201cArise and eat.\u201d\u00a0 So Elijah ate\u2026but he laid back down.\u00a0 The angel came again and said, \u201cArise and eat so you can go on a journey.\u201d\u00a0 In other words, \u201cOkay, Elijah, now the pity party is over.\u00a0 Time to get up and get going.\u201d\u00a0 And that\u2019s what Elijah did.\u00a0 His discouragement didn\u2019t leave immediately, but this was a step in the right direction.\u00a0 (1 Kings 19:1-9)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Patsy-Clairmont.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3331\" src=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Patsy-Clairmont-189x300.jpg\" alt=\"Patsy Clairmont\" width=\"189\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Patsy-Clairmont-189x300.jpg 189w, https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Patsy-Clairmont.jpg 314w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Popular author and Women of Faith speaker, Patsy Clairmont, knows how difficult it can be to just get out of bed.\u00a0 At one conference she spoke about her struggle with agoraphobia, the fear of open spaces and crowds of people.\u00a0 For years she couldn\u2019t even walk to her mailbox.\u00a0 She felt trapped in her house.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t even want to get out of bed.\u00a0 One day her prayer changed from, \u201cLord, fix me\u201d to \u201cLord, I\u2019ll do whatever I need to do to get well.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0She thought she could hear the Lord whispering for her to get up and make her bed.\u00a0 Some days that\u2019s all she could do \u2013 but she arose and made her bed. \u00a0It was the start of her slow, long and difficult road to recovery.\u00a0 She had to do her part to participate in her recovery.<\/p>\n<p>Consider this\u2026 \u201cPart\u201d is \u201cpart\u201d of the word \u201cpart\u201d-icipation.\u00a0 God is certainly willing to do His part; are we willing to do our part, no matter how small it may seem?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Suggestions for practicing this choice\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Participation means to do something.
