{"id":166,"date":"2010-06-06T16:03:12","date_gmt":"2010-06-06T21:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/?p=166"},"modified":"2010-06-06T16:04:40","modified_gmt":"2010-06-06T21:04:40","slug":"gray-areas-of-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/?p=166","title":{"rendered":"Gray Areas of Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many of life\u2019s questions can be answered with \u201cyes or no\u201d, \u201cright or wrong.\u201d\u00a0 We can point to certain scriptures and use biblical principles to back up these answers. But many of life\u2019s questions cannot be answered with \u201cyes or no,\u201d \u201cright or wrong.\u201d \u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s that old \u201cblack and white\u201d area versus the proverbial \u201cgray.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bible gives definite instructions about certain things like not having premarital sex, stealing, judging others, bearing false witness, committing adultery, drinking too much wine and so on.\u00a0 However the bible does not tell us whether or not to make career change, have another baby, move to different town, go to college, get married to a certain person, or join the P.T.A. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t tell us whether or not to buy a new car, get a dog, take sky diving lessons, or let our kids listen to certain music.<\/p>\n<p>These are \u201cgray\u201d areas.\u00a0 What would be beneficial for some to do might not be beneficial for others.<\/p>\n<p>When faced with \u201cgray\u201d area decisions it is wise to use the \u201cgray matter\u201d God gave us to deal with these situations \u2013 our brains. God has created within us a decision-making ability that he expects us to use.\u00a0 He wants us to think, reason, and make choices.\u00a0 If God made all our choices, we would be robots not human beings.<\/p>\n<p>We need to learn to prayerfully weigh the pros and cons of our circumstances before making a decision.\u00a0 While it might be a good idea for one person to make a career change, it might not be a good idea for another.\u00a0 And what if our choice to change careers doesn\u2019t work out the way we thought it should? \u00a0It\u2019s all too easy to just blame God rather than repeat the process again &#8211; prayerfully weigh the pros and cons, then make a decision.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, keeping God involved in the decision making process through prayer is vital.\u00a0 However, God wants us to use our brains.\u00a0 Dealing with gray areas of life, requires us to use our gray matter. \u00a0Use it or lose it.\u00a0 The more you exercise your brain power, the better your decision making ability becomes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many of life\u2019s questions can be answered with \u201cyes or no\u201d, \u201cright or wrong.\u201d\u00a0 We can point to certain scriptures and use biblical principles to back up these answers.
