{"id":1214,"date":"2012-08-05T09:00:03","date_gmt":"2012-08-05T14:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/?p=1214"},"modified":"2012-07-20T18:59:36","modified_gmt":"2012-07-20T23:59:36","slug":"remember-who-you-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/barbdahlgren.com\/?p=1214","title":{"rendered":"Remember Who You Are"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is remarkable how many times the exhortation to remember things is found in the Bible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Slaves.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1215\" title=\"Slaves\" src=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Slaves-256x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"256\" height=\"361\" \/><\/a>God had to remind the Israelites to remember when he brought them out of their bondage in Egypt.\u00a0 Remember when they were slaves in Egypt.\u00a0 Remember that God delivered them to freedom (Deuteronomy 5:15).\u00a0 Remember what God did to Pharaoh and to Egypt (Deuteronomy 7:18).\u00a0 Remember how God led them through the wilderness (Deuteronomy 8:2).\u00a0 He admonished them to\u2026 \u201cBe very careful never to forget what you have seen the Lord do for you.\u00a0 Do not let these things escape from your mind as long as you live (Deuteronomy 4:9 NLT)!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jesus was continually telling the disciples to remember what he told them and what he had done.\u00a0 Remember that I can supply all your needs; after all, I did feed the 5000 (Matthew 16:9).\u00a0 Remember to reconcile with your brothers and sisters (Matthew 5:22-23).\u00a0 Remember that a servant isn\u2019t greater than his master (John 15:20).\u00a0 Remember there will come a time people will put you out of the church or kill you thinking they do God a service (John 16:1-4).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After Christ was crucified the disciples remembered what Christ had said and done, and encouraged his followers to do the same.\u00a0 Remember that Christ said it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).\u00a0 Remember how Jesus Christ was raised from the dead (2 Timothy 2:8). Remember what the apostles of Lord foretold (Jude 1:17).<\/p>\n<p>Humans have a memory problem so we have to be prompted to remember things.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes the right kind of ritual can help us remember things.\u00a0 At the Last Supper Jesus and the disciples took what we call Communion.\u00a0 They ate the bread representing the body of Christ broken on the cross for us and drank the wine<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Do-in-Rembrance-cropped2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-1221\" title=\"Do in Rembrance - cropped\" src=\"http:\/\/www.barbdahlgren.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Do-in-Rembrance-cropped2-300x139.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a> representing his blood, shed on our behalf.\u00a0 Jesus said, \u201cDo this in remembrance of me (Luke 22:14-20).\u201d\u00a0 This ritual continued all through New Testament times and still exists today (1 Corinthians 11:24 &#8211; 26).\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The point of doing something in remembrance of Christ is not to let it become so routine or ordinary that it has no meaning to us.\u00a0 We need to think about it every time it\u2019s done.\u00a0 Taking Communion should feed our relationship with Christ.\u00a0 Not only does it help us remember who Christ is but it also helps us remember who we are in Christ.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other Christian habits or spiritual disciplines such as going to church, studying the Bible, meditating on God\u2019s words, or praying reinforce this as well.\u00a0 C.S.
